The service is free. Everyone who is registered with a GP can have access to their practice’s online services.

How can I find out what online services my GP practice offers?

The services available to you will depend on the online system your GP practice uses. You can ask your practice what services they offer when you sign up or check on this website. Simplylook up your GP practiceusing the services near you facility at the top of this page. Each available service is listed under “online facilities” on the “overview” and “facilities” pages of the GP profile (see example image).

The online system used by your GP also determines whether you can access any additional NHS-approved online service and apps. To find out more about these additional services, please check with your GP practice or have a look at the list below. More services and apps will be added to the list as they become available.

I’m not good with the internet – where can I get help?

Prescription Costs

Prescription charges are as follows:

  • Prescription (per item): £9.35
  • 3-month PPC: £30.25
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £108.10

If you pay for prescription items frequently, you may find it cheaper to buy a prepayment certificate. You can do this byvisiting here.

Private Prescriptions

A private prescription can only be issued if the medication is not available on the NHS; the prescription is not paid for by the NHS and the cost is paid for by the patient. It is charged by the cost of the medicine and the pharmacists charge for supplying it.

Please note a prescription is a legal document which the doctor who has signed it is responsible. Doctors who are seen privately cannot issue NHS prescriptions.

Your GP is unable to convert a private prescription into an NHS prescription.

The NHS provides sickness certificationonly after seven continuous days of illness. If you need a sick note to cover this period of sickness you should complete a Self Certification (SC2) form which is available from your employer or on theHMRC website.

Please visit theDirect Gov websitefor full information about fitness for work following a period of sickness. After this period a NHS certificate may be issued but you will need to contact the surgery as it may be necessary to discuss your request with your GP.

Do I need a note saying I’m fit for work?

No. You do not need to see your GP again to be ‘signed back to work’.

Overseas Visitors

Those who visit the UK from overseas must pay for their care when they are in England.

In 2015 changes were made to how the NHS charges overseas visitors for healthcare so the NHS does not lose out on income for the services these patients have received.

Our Clinical Pharmacy Team

Did you know that your GP surgery has access to a team of clinical pharmacists to help support with your health management? Many people aren’t aware and are unsure about how a clinical pharmacist can assist them.

Clinical pharmacists work as part of your GP surgery team to assist with day-to-day medicine issues. They are highly trained experts in medicines, who also consult with and treat patients directly.

This includes providing extra help to manage long-term conditions, advice for those on multiple medications and better access to health checks.

Their role is pivotal to improving the quality of care and ensuring patient safety.

Clinical pharmacists in GP surgeries are an integral part of the NHS Long Term Plan to make it easier for patients to have access to the right health professional for their needs.

The Bromley GP Alliance clinical pharmacists are from various backgrounds and well experienced in diverse areas including community, hospital, outpatient or mental health pharmacies – each bringing their unique insights and skills to provide Bromley residents with the best care.

How can a clinical pharmacist help me?

  • If you have a long term condition, a clinical pharmacist can offer advice on the medicines you are taking to ensure you get the best outcome.
  • They can help you make changes to your lifestyle to help you stay well.
  • If your medicine is making you feel worse or causing other symptoms, a clinical pharmacist can help by reviewing your medication and help plan appropriate management.
  • If you take multiple medicines, a clinical pharmacist can help you plan and manage them.
  • They can also provide health checks such as checking your blood pressure and arranging blood tests.
  • Clinical pharmacists may be able to prescribe your medicines in the same way as your GP.

Clinical pharmacists have vast clinical knowledge and they are there to help you.

Your GP surgery will always direct your query to the most appropriate member of the team, so, the next time a clinical pharmacist from your practice gives you a call, be assured you are speaking to a highly trained professional, who is eager to help with your query and help you get well.
